Pickens & VCC setting up shop in Louisiana

A few weeks ago, V-Vehicle Company (VVC), a San Diego firm backed by oil man turned environmentalist T. Boone Pickens revealed that it’s the manufacturer setting up shop in Monroe, Louisiana to build a range of high-efficiency combustion-engine cars. The state offered VVC an incentive package worth $67 million, and local governments will put up a further $15 million.

1,400 jobs will be created, with an average salary of $40,000 to build regular gasoline-powered cars that focus on high mileage, reports local Monroe newspaper The News Star. One could find the announcement odd given we are midst an economic and automotive crisis. VVC’s presence is seen as a ‘game changer’ for Louisiana and very important for the country as a whole. It’s more than smart planning to have the vision of the new American car company coming to life on the ground in Louisiana.

With the abundance of American natural gas that is available and affordable- it makes sense that some new companies would rise to take on the challenge of meeting the changing needs of today’s market. I think the winning ticket will be Pickens and VVC building natural gas powered cars in Louisiana right on top of the world’s fourth largest natural gas reserve.

ABOUT VCC.

VVC was founded in 2006 by CEO Frank Varasano, previously executive VP of Oracle Corp., while former Mazda designer Tom Matano will head up the vehicle design department. (Matano was responsible for the design of the MX-5, RX-7 and 929 Miata M-Coupe among other projects).
